Some back story:

So the other two members in the Doc group are focusing on the Patriot Guard and Celebrity Impersonators, while I’m doing Cubicles. The Patriot Guard is a group of motorcyclists that go to the funerals of Iraq soldiers per the family’s request to shield them from protesters (mainly organized by Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church). When Phelps starts yelling, the motorcyclists rev their engines so the families don’t have to listen to him.

Phelps is located in Kansas and with spring break next week we’re going to celebrate the time off Film School style with a Documentary Road Trip.

The difficulty in planning the trip was the spontaneity of the funerals, since it’s generally last minute notice. However, today we found out one is happening this Saturday in Kansas that Phelps plans to be at, so we’re leaving tomorrow to make the drive. If we can get there by Friday afternoon we might be able to catch Phelps protesting at a Bill Clinton speech.

Once the funeral and some interviews are in the can, it’s off to Graceland to catch some Elvis impersonators along with the pure fun of just visiting and getting some B-roll footage. ((Generally interviews are considered the A-roll. B-roll are the shots to cut to to make the documentary more visually interesting.))

Finally, we’re heading down to Atlanta to visit some more impersonators and hopefully visit Google for my documentary, as they’re quite public about their innovative office design. Hopefully Atlanta shares some similarities to Mountain View. I’d also like to visit Steelcase, the number one office furniture manufacturer in America, as they have a showroom in Atlanta. Perhaps we’ll also visit Six Flags.

Well that’s what we have planned. We’ll see if that’s how it actually happens. I’m looking forward to just the journey across a good chunk of America. I’ll be armed with my laptop and Nikon D80, so watch out for some adventures from the road.
