During my first semester in the Film School we had a Production Management class. In it we were required to create a UPM kit. Shopping for these items brought back grade school memories. Here’s what we had to pickup:
- One portable file box or satchel – the UPM kit
- One set of erasable colored pencils: red, orange, green, yellow, blue, pink, violet, brown, black
- One clear plastic ruler
- One three-hole punch
- Three highlighters: blue, green, yellow
- Set of manila file folders or accordion folder with 30 slots (For copies of paperwork. You might need to divide the accordion slots with manila folders to get to 30)
- Set of file labels
- One clipboard
- Blank paper: white, blue, yellow, green
- Production supplies: scissors, white-out, pens, pencils, sharpies, aspirin, tape, stapler, paper clips, rubber bands, envelops, batteries, rain gear, sunscreen, bug spray, first aid kit
- Two one-inch three-ring binders
- Two sets of divider tabs for binders (12 tabs each)
Some of the supplies are for use on set (when someone needs something you’re the go-to person) while others are for breaking down scripts and doing pre-production work.
